26th International Summer SchoolTHE UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER

GENERAL INFORMATION:
SUMMER 2008

The University of Leicester was founded in 1921 and was granted its Royal Charter
in 1957. Students at the Summer School will be accommodated in single study
bedrooms in a University Hall of Residence. En suite bedrooms are also available at an additional cost. Bed linen (duvets) and towels will be provided, with a change of towels during the week. Tea/coffee making is available in the bedrooms and ironing facilities are supplied in kitchen areas in the accommodation blocks. Coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers are also available. The University sports facilities are available during the week, and there is a public swimming pool within reasonable walking distance.

The University is only three miles from the city centre and the mainline railway
station. There are good bus links between the University and the city of Leicester,
which has excellent shopping and the largest covered market in Europe.

CERTIFICATE COURSES AT THE SUMMER SCHOOL

In 2001 the British Kodály Academy instituted Sound Beginnings, a new Certificate
Course to begin at the Summer School. It is validated by Roehampton University
and is a Certificate of Professional Practice, Early Years (Kodály).

In 2003, in consultation with Roehampton University, the BKA instituted Sound
Progressions
, a comparable Certificate Course to begin at the Summer School. This is the Certificate of Professional Practice, Primary Years (Kodály).

Credits from both these courses may be transferred to other degree and diploma
courses, if considered suitable. Attainment of both Certificates qualifies the holder
for a graduate Diploma.

Both Certificate Courses involve further study in the months following the Summer
School. Both involve intensive study while at the Summer School, so participation
in most of the Summer School classes is very limited, although attendance at Choir is included, and evening activities are also available.

SOUND BEGINNINGS will be taught by Helga Dietrich and
Lucinda Geoghegan.

SOUND PROGRESSIONS will be taught by Cyrilla Rowsell, and David Vinden.

Márta Szabó will teach on both courses.

Musicianship with Relative Solfa will be provided at all levels. Those interested in either Certificate Course should ask for further information and a separate application form from either Mary Place (email: mary.place@homecall.co.uk) or Celia Cviic (email: celiacviic@btinternet.com).
